Ok, I don’t think anyone noticed, but I posted a link to this guy’s video yesterday
It wasn’t posted here, but on Twitter and cross posted to my FB after I noticed the story via a post on Reddit.com. I’m not bringing this up because I’m bitter no one noticed my post, but because of what has happened in the last 12 hours or so.
When I first noticed the story the Reddit crowd was loving Zach’s video, and links and info were also making their way (or maybe already had made their way) on to 4chan and Digg. At that time, about 8:30pm PST, Zach had about 3500 votes. The person in first had about 1.2 million votes. It seemed that voting for Zach, while well intentioned, would be pretty futile. This guy obviously didn’t have a chance of getting into first place or even of getting into a top ten. He was just too far behind.
How wrong was I? When I went to bed at 3am PST Zach was up to a little over 100k votes thanks to Reddit, Digg and 4chan. When I woke up I had an email that a post I liked on Digg had gotten popular. It had to be the Zach video since I don’t do the Digg much, so out of curiosity I made my way over to the Oprah site to check his votes. In 6 short hours Zach had racked up over 2 million votes! He is now well in first place with a total of over 2.4 million votes.
I hope someone has told him. And I hope that the Oprah crew doesn’t hold this against him. The votes this guy received from the online community in the past 12 or so hours have been genuine. The comments (well, most of them) that I saw on Reddit were from people who think this guy is really funny, creative, inspiring and deserving of his own show. Link to the original Reddit post I saw is here, see for yourself.
