conversation with my 7 yr old
scene: in the car, 7:35am this morning, on the way to drop him off at school
him: “the devil and i, when we’re versing each other, we rock together, we make a good team” (he’s referring to the devil in guitar hero, not the actual “Devil”)
me: “if you’re versing him doesn’t that mean you’re not on the same team, that you’re like playing against each other?”
him: “yeah, but we still sound good together, me and the devil. that lou really rocks!”
me: “can we just call him lou instead of the devil” (i don’t mind if he calls him the devil to me because i know it’s just a game. i am worried that he may say loudly in public some day “the devil rocks!”)
him: “ok, lou. he’s such a crackhead!”
me: (sputtering slightly since this is the first time i’ve heard him say crackhead - don’t blame me, i don’t say it around him) “crackhead? what’s a crackhead?” (just testing, you can’t assume with 7 year olds, they live in a whole different world - thank goodness!)
him: “just nuts, like cracked up”
me: “ok, well, let’s just say he’s a nutcase then, can we do that? instead of saying the devil is a crackhead, we’ll just say that lou is a nutcase. will that work?”
him: “ok” then under his breath, “the devil is a crackhead, the devil is a crackhead”
me: consternated
